Flywheel
Flywheel is more than a company, more than commercial interests and corporate concerns. It’s people with a passion and the belief that profit isn’t something that is always measured against expenditures. Flywheel operates with the understanding that rebuilding something is often more satisfying than building something new.
Founded by Clay Boardman as Augusta Capital, Flywheel was established with the belief that historic structures, with imagination and care, could be repurposed and given a new lease on life. He took the business acumen honed as CEO of Boardman Petroleum Inc., Charter Terminal Company and Charter-Triad Terminals, and applied it to the historic preservation projects. The result is a string of success stories that ranges in scope from former industrial facilities built out as commercial real estate to luxury condominiums spawned from the classrooms of a retired elementary school.
Anne Catherine Murray joined Flywheel as the project manager on the company’s Enterprise Mill project. Since then Murray, who has a Masters in Historic Preservation, has proven an invaluable asset for the company and the last word in finding the delicate balance between preservation and reinterpretation.
Boardman is Chairman of the Georgia Health Sciences Foundation, and serves on the boards of Paine College, the Community Foundation for the CSRA, Augusta Tomorrow, Augusta Preparatory Day School, Turn Back the Block in addition to other civic and corporate boards. Anne Catherine Murray is a past Trustee of Historic Augusta, Inc., where she chaired the Historic Properties Committee and the Endangered Properties List program. She is the president of Turn Back the Block, a new nonprofit with the mission of revitalizing the Harrisburg Mill Community.
